Randy Mitchell said: While I respect everyone's right to express an opinion on this important matter, it has been evident for some time that the large trees south of the bridge are not going to be adversely affected even if the current Township plan is adopted. Please take the yellow tape off the trees! It is unsightly and serves no purpose at all now. Thank you.

Committee action: The tape has been removed from all the trees that will not be affected by the most recent Township plan. It remains on only the three large oak trees and maple trees that will still be adversely affected (they might not be cut down, but we have been told by tree experts that they will very likely not survive the construction). In good faith, we have removed the tape on the trees the Township has indicated they will no longer demolish even though PTRD's alternative proposal has not been formally submitted to Cook County and thus, the original proposal submitted is still valid.  Thank you for taking the time to comment.

I grew up in PG and it continues to hold endless memories for me and my family. My mother still resides in the neighborhood (now 49 years) and feels this is such a special unique place. This is a neighborhood full of families and on any given day you will see children and adults on the streets, either riding their bikes, jogging, walking or skateboarding.

I have spent countless hours on that bridge. It holds many fond memories for me as I was 3 years old when we moved to the area. The bridge is a piece of art!

Please just repair the bridge, leave the trees alone and lower the speed limit throughout the neighborhood to discourage outside traffic from cutting through. Since the neighborhood is so full of life and no sidewalks, a lower speed limit would be beneficial to all who reside in this peaceful community.

Since it seems you have so much money to spend on the bridge, I think it would be of better use, in helping those along the creek that have lost property over the past 25+ years, which in fact has nothing to do with the bridge.

In all, the Briarwood bridge is a unique part of this subdivision. It adds character and is an art-form. It just needs some TLC.

It definitely tends to slow down drivers and I have never felt anxious about my 5 children riding their bikes or walking to the Plum Grove pool as youngsters.
Slowing the speed to 20 m.p.h. would be a sensible idea since traffic has increased over the years.
Cutting even a single tree would be tragic.

My husband and I live at 2 Redbud Rd. in Creekside. I love the bridge, the trees, and the curving road. It is hard to understand why the village has even considered such extensive changes. Obviously, the bridge should be maintained and repaired. Many people walk on Briarwood. Nothing that will increase traffic is in the interest of residents. If those trees are destroyed property values will suffer and much of the beauty of the neighborhood will be destroyed.

I live off of Frontage Road on Balmoral Ct. I walk, ride my bike and drive through this beautiful neighborhood and I noticed the signs and caution tape on some of the trees and wondered what was going on. This morning while walking I stopped to talk to some homeowners that were on the bridge and they informed me of the impending project. I have to say that this is by far the worst idea and waste of our taxpayers money. THIS IS A NEIGHBORHOOD!! NOT A HIGHWAY OR MAIN STREET. I agree with the other people who made comments that the reconstruction would take away from the beauty of this area. The trees have been there for a very long time and they add character. DESTROYING them to widen a road is nuts! I see kids walking, riding their bikes, skateboarding...I see moms pushing strollers, people walking and riding bikes enjoying the tranquility of the area. There has got to be a better solution and a different area of our community that could use the money allocated for this project...There's a saying, "If it ain't broke....don't fix it...If speeding is the problem..have more police drive the area. I would gladly sign a petition and help in any way to stop or improve this project...without sacrificing the trees and people beautiful properties and the bridge which again adds so much character to the area. Thanks!!!

There is no good reason for Cook County to destroy the bridge, destroy resident's property. None whatsoever! this is a quaint, residential area. Cars drive slowly on Briarwood Lane which is a good thing! The bridge and curves help slow them down. This is a residential area, not a throughway. And no good reason exists to make it a throughway! Waste of Obama/tax payers' money. No way do I believe that there aren't other roads where this money would be better spent. What happened to "government for the people"??? This decision is not for the residents of this private area at all. This neighborhood needs trees to absorb water. It was designed that way. Has anyone from Cook county looked at the design of this neighborhood? And thought through what this demolition will cause? I would like to know that.

Just this afternoon, my husband and I saw a car speeding down Briarwood at a very high speed. So fast that we had to swerve off to the side of the road. Luckily, a police car chased him down and made a stop, but not after crossing the bridge. Thankfully, no one was on the bridge at the time. This is just one reason why Briarwood, and the bridge, should not be changed to accommodate more traffic or a higher speed limit. The speed limit needs to be lowered and the bridge should be left as is since it's part of the character of the neighborhood. Fix it, don't replace it. The speed limit should be reduced to 20mph like it is in Creekside.

We strongly oppose the proposed project. What a shame Palatine Township Road District even considered it as an option.

We are in full support of saving the bridge. We would be happy to display a yard sign on Dawngate. Tom and Nancy Dempsey

I am so disappointed to see the politicians at work again, this time attempting to make changes that will mar the aesthetics of our community. The current bridge, its design and its decorative stone, adds immeasurably to the beauty of our subdivision. Why would we want to replace it with a cookie-cutter bridge that is most unsuitable to the entire area? Why not spend the money that they seem so eager to disperse on flood control? That would improve the lives of so many people. Repair the bridge and let us enjoy living here.
