Comment  The issue of revamping the approach to the bridge is I believe the major flaw in the plan vs. rebuilding. The extra cost of that effort and the impact on higher speed traffic thru the area is not warranted or wanted. We use Briarwood from Creekside to exit the area and never had a problem in over 36 years. Replace the Bridge but do not straighten Briarwood. Save money, save time and save residents from speeders. As a long time resident of Plum Grove Woodlands even before there was Plum Grove Estates I would hate to see
this bridge taken down and trees destroyed for the sake of a new road which this section doesn't need. I think that repair is the way to go and putting in a speed sign to slow traffic is a must. We must save the rural atmosphere in our
area as the world grows up around us. Eventhough I live in Wisconsin I still love the area and would not want to ruin it in any way. Thank you, Marilyn (Schiek) Hess

This bridge is beautiful, and historic. It would be criminal to replace it for any reason...if necessary restoration not
destruction! SAVE BRIARWOOD LANE & BRIDGE!

Hi,
My name is Lou and I run a website called Modern Illinois (http://modernil.com)

I was wondering if there’s anything non-residents can do to help your effort to repair, rather than replace, the bridge on Briarwood.

As your website states so well, that bridge is an important part of the mid-century design aesthetic of Plum Grove Estates (one of my personal favorite neighborhoods in the area – in fact if you visit my site you’ll see that pictures of several PGE homes are used in our banner images).

Best,
Lou Zucaro

I just returned from the Briarwood Bridge meeting. A resident brought up the question whether the Briarwood plan was tied to the Meacham Road expansion plan. Further investigation is needed. The Meacham Rd. expansion plan calls for Meacham to be expanded to 6 lanes from Higgins to Algonquin and 5 lanes from Algonquin to Emerson in Palatine. It makes sense that these plans would call for overflow traffic to be diverted through Briarwood. This would increase traffic exponentially on Briarwood thus the need to now reconfigure and widen the road. This plan has been in the works for many years and we are just hearing about this in the final phase of the plan. If you are a resident of PGE and want to preserve our community please get involved.

Please do not replace Briarwood Bridge.

Randy Mitchell said: While I respect everyone's right to express an opinion on this important matter, it has been evident for some time that the large trees south of the bridge are not going to be adversely affected even if the current Township plan is adopted. Please take the yellow tape off the trees! It is unsightly and serves no purpose at all now. Thank you.

Committee action: The tape has been removed from all the trees that will not be affected by the most recent Township plan. It remains on only the three large oak trees and maple trees that will still be adversely affected (they might not be cut down, but we have been told by tree experts that they will very likely not survive the construction). In good faith, we have removed the tape on the trees the Township has indicated they will no longer demolish even though PTRD's alternative proposal has not been formally submitted to Cook County and thus, the original proposal submitted is still valid.  Thank you for taking the time to comment.

I grew up in PG and it continues to hold endless memories for me and my family. My mother still resides in the neighborhood (now 49 years) and feels this is such a special unique place. This is a neighborhood full of families and on any given day you will see children and adults on the streets, either riding their bikes, jogging, walking or skateboarding.

I have spent countless hours on that bridge. It holds many fond memories for me as I was 3 years old when we moved to the area. The bridge is a piece of art!

Please just repair the bridge, leave the trees alone and lower the speed limit throughout the neighborhood to discourage outside traffic from cutting through. Since the neighborhood is so full of life and no sidewalks, a lower speed limit would be beneficial to all who reside in this peaceful community.

Since it seems you have so much money to spend on the bridge, I think it would be of better use, in helping those along the creek that have lost property over the past 25+ years, which in fact has nothing to do with the bridge.

In all, the Briarwood bridge is a unique part of this subdivision. It adds character and is an art-form. It just needs some TLC.

It definitely tends to slow down drivers and I have never felt anxious about my 5 children riding their bikes or walking to the Plum Grove pool as youngsters.
Slowing the speed to 20 m.p.h. would be a sensible idea since traffic has increased over the years.
Cutting even a single tree would be tragic.

My husband and I live at 2 Redbud Rd. in Creekside. I love the bridge, the trees, and the curving road. It is hard to understand why the village has even considered such extensive changes. Obviously, the bridge should be maintained and repaired. Many people walk on Briarwood. Nothing that will increase traffic is in the interest of residents. If those trees are destroyed property values will suffer and much of the beauty of the neighborhood will be destroyed.
