There is no good reason for Cook County to destroy the bridge, destroy resident's property. None whatsoever! this is a quaint, residential area. Cars drive slowly on Briarwood Lane which is a good thing! The bridge and curves help slow them down. This is a residential area, not a throughway. And no good reason exists to make it a throughway! Waste of Obama/tax payers' money. No way do I believe that there aren't other roads where this money would be better spent. What happened to "government for the people"??? This decision is not for the residents of this private area at all. This neighborhood needs trees to absorb water. It was designed that way. Has anyone from Cook county looked at the design of this neighborhood? And thought through what this demolition will cause? I would like to know that.

I live off of Frontage Road on Balmoral Ct. I walk, ride my bike and drive through this beautiful neighborhood and I noticed the signs and caution tape on some of the trees and wondered what was going on. This morning while walking I stopped to talk to some homeowners that were on the bridge and they informed me of the impending project. I have to say that this is by far the worst idea and waste of our taxpayers money. THIS IS A NEIGHBORHOOD!! NOT A HIGHWAY OR MAIN STREET. I agree with the other people who made comments that the reconstruction would take away from the beauty of this area. The trees have been there for a very long time and they add character. DESTROYING them to widen a road is nuts! I see kids walking, riding their bikes, skateboarding...I see moms pushing strollers, people walking and riding bikes enjoying the tranquility of the area. There has got to be a better solution and a different area of our community that could use the money allocated for this project...There's a saying, "If it ain't broke....don't fix it...If speeding is the problem..have more police drive the area. I would gladly sign a petition and help in any way to stop or improve this project...without sacrificing the trees and people beautiful properties and the bridge which again adds so much character to the area. Thanks!!!
