On Wednesday, May 16th, community residents opposed to the unwarranted replacement of the Briarwood bridge attended a Plum Grove Estates' property owners meeting to raise awareness of the Township's plans.  As reported by the Daily Herald, the destruction and reconstruction of our historic bridge and culling of 200-year old oak trees is not "sitting well" with many of the homeowners.  Please weigh in with your comments, and let the Township know that we will not be bulldozed into this unnecessary, destructive project!

The purpose and need of this project is not readily apparent. IDOT's 2010 bridge condition report states the existing bridge is not structurally deficient and has a sufficiency rating of 81%. It also states the structural evaluation is equal to existing minimum criteria. Secondly, the proposed realignment plan removes ancient oaks and other trees and removes the traffic calming devices that have protected Plum Grove for a half century. The Palatine Township Road District continues to ignore the increased speeds that will result creating grave danger for the pedestrians and motorists that use Briarwood. The vetting must continue. The Township has a duty to provide facts and wriiten reports from the engineer stating that their proposed changes will make Briarwood safer, right? For if not safer, what's the motive?

Does this have anything to do with the expand Meacham Road project that the residents from Birarwood Lane and north of there are fighting? If you are unaware of that fight I can put you in touch with the people/residents who are fighting that battle with Rolling Meadows and Cook County.
